Awakening undergraduate nursing students’ critical awareness about men’s health and health literacy- A workshop/evaluation project

Andy is entering his fourth year of nursing at Ryerson University this fall. He holds a previous degree from McGill University in Psychology. During his studies at McGill, he discovered an interest in influencing health policy at a community level and advocating for accessible resources to marginalized populations. Specifically, his inspiration is to make a positive impact in the Canadian healthcare system by reducing the stigmas and stereotypes surrounding mental health, the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. With his experiences as a Research Assistant at Ryerson, he plans to pursue graduate studies in nursing or public health.

Betty Wang is recently graduated from Ryerson University's four year collaborative nursing program. Betty is a passionate student leader in her community as she has been involved in several leadership positions. She is the current President of the Ryerson Nursing Course Union and is dedicated in promoting positive mental health in her community. In addition to her active involvement in leadership positions, Betty is also involved in various volunteer activities in her community. She also holds a part-time position at the University Health Network in Toronto.

Mirna Hussein a senior nursing student at Hariri School of Nursing at American University of Beirut, in Lebanon. This year she was elected as a representative of the University Student and Faculty Council (USFC). She previously held the Student Representative Committee Position. She is also a co-founder of the " USFC Safer Campus initiative". She is an very active student nurse at AUB in several clubs and societies.

Overfed and Undernourished: Malnutrition Redefined

Vigne Sridharan is a second year nursing student at McMaster University in Canada. Through nursing she was able to get involved with the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association and was recently elected as the Global Health and Outreach Committee Chair. Her two biggest passions include nursing and environmental public health, in particular food insecurity. She has previously earned a diploma in Environmental Management and has found an organization that educate young people on food growing techniques.  She hopes to pursue a Master of Public Health and to continue advocating for food literacy, security and sustainability in an effort to move closer towards health equity and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Leah Carrier is a nursing student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She is the current Vice President of the Canadian Nursing Students' Association and an advocate for social justice, indigenous health, and self care. Since being diagnosed with a chronic illness, she has had to rebalance her life and priorities and has made it a mission to help young leaders learn to take care of their own health and wellbeing.

This is a presentation style where 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. Total presentation times are 6 minutes and 40 seconds. This format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced.

do i have to be physically present in barcelona to partake?

No! We are holding up to three spots for group Pecha Kucha presentations from student and novice nurses who will not be in Barcelona for the  event. Slides must be voiced over and must be sent in previous to the date. More details for submission process will be given post-submission.
